D.D Marx holds a profound talent for creating a story that is endearing, mysterious, believable, romantic, and enthralling. Hopeless romantics, voracious readers, and spiritualists may all find something of value to treasure within this engaging easy to follow love story that has many stories and elements blended into one “meant-to-be” love story. For those struggling to believe in fate and holding the hope that the right person is out there---reading Beyond Believing may assist restoring a bit of that belief in the higher powers that are guiding true love connections. Although this is a love story, it is also a story of loss, grief, and moving on after an unthinkable tragedy has occurred.

The main protagonist Olivia lost her best friend, Dan, and his passing changed her perceptions of the world and her future life path. After Olivia asked Dan for a sign, he began to communicate from the other side via license plate number synchronicities, scents, dreams, and the most intriguing-- John Mellencamp songs. “Small Town” was the song that bridged the gap between worlds and led Olivia to a new job and a beautiful man named Finn McDaniel with a generous heart that was shattered by the passing of this first wife and baby. Finn worked hard to build a life after an intense tragedy and wasn’t looking for love when an embarrassing chance first meeting orchestrated by Olivia’s cousin was precisely what fate had in mind for these two lovely souls to meet.

Audio aspects of Beyond Believing were well captured via the talented duo Heather Masters and Angus King, both of these talented individuals have created a lovely medley of cheerfully upbeat Heather and the calm, sultry, cadence of Augus’s Scottish accent created an entertaining dialogue that added a theatrical presence to the book’s narration. The vocal characters alternate chapters with their perception of their spiritual beliefs and life circumstances, and the budding romance that was divinely guided by Dan and others in the realm of spirit.

Beyond Believing (the first of four) is not only a beautiful love story that fueled the undying belief that true love does exist; it provided an example that one can rebuild after unthinkable tragedy and learn to love life yet again.
