Innocence on Trial is a massive book with a profound message—a vital read for obtaining a better understanding of the judicial system in America. Complex issues and how the history of these complex social issues in America took place and the corrupt police departments that frame, taunt and put innocent men and women behind bars for their corrupt benefit. Bowers exposed the for-profit prison model and the atrocious living conditions that prisoners were forced to reside in—and the dearth of edible food, potable water, medical care "Attica" allowed for its prisoner populations.

The main protagonist, Laura Tobias- a justice attorney, worked tirelessly to free a man named Eddie Nash from the wrongful sentence for a crime she believed that he did not commit over ten years ago. Eddie was imprisoned for the killing of a young woman in the 1970s, and despite the numerous obstacles, roadblocks, and harrowing threats, Laura worked relentlessly for Eddie's justice. Laura's character is quite admirable and provided a quality example of a woman working for change in a man's world. The justice system isn't kind to women, firstly starting their careers in a field that has been dominated by men since its genesis. Laura's character does provide a healthy role model for women contemplating a career in criminal justice or give literary support to those who are working in the complex industry.

Narrator Elanor Caudill's dry, yet intriguing delivery adds seriousness to the novel. Her ability to vocally change tonality and tambour from one character to the next while simulating the verbal courtroom exchanges adds a dash of realism to this audiobook experience. Innocence on Trial is more than listening to a novel---rather a vocal performance coupled with Rick Bowers's talent for portraying details and maintaining a believable storyline of the court trials with plausible jargon and emotional ups-and-downs of battling in the courtrooms.

In the age of protests and social unrest, Innocence on Trial is more than relevant. It is an educational experience blended with drama and an enthralling storyline that will surely captivate the readers' attention. And create awareness for further research regarding America's dark past of imprisoning the innocent.
